Harry Potter 5 film
Went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix last night, after a false start the night before when the Vue didn't bother to show the film at the time they advertised.

I actually really enjoyed it, which surprised me somewhat, especially as it is probably the weakest of the books (although, given the only time I have read it was the disastrous summer of 2003, I may be somewhat biased). It did what it needed to do, with a good deal of style, and surprisingly effective economy (very much unlike the book!). Probably the best of the five films to date, imo. Though it did strike home just how dark this whole series has become, after a relatively innocuous start - which isn't a bad thing at all, but I wonder what children make of it.

The adverts they showed before the film were downright odd. Never have I seen so many tedious adverts for new cars, but oddly mixed in with adverts for childrens' food and drink, and one odd advert extolling the virtues of ladies shaving their armpits. I'm not quite sure what the demographic was supposed to be there!

As is far too frequent, the downright lazy 'seen one, seen them all' trailers (man with deep voice throwing out platitudes and general nonsense while manic 'fun' scenes occur) were generally appalling - though the Transformers movie should be interesting next weekend, as should the Simpsons.
